Cal Poly's civil engineering students may not be able to make water into wine, but they can make concrete float. They can also mold it into a mean, lean racing machine, or in this case, a canoe. They did just that at this year's American Society of Civil Engineers' National Concrete Canoe Competition, placing fourth out of 22 student teams.

Lane Transit District will consider cutting services this year, despite record ridership, because of high gas prices. The district will also raise group passes such as the ASUO's by more than eight percent in 2009, which will likely disconcert an executive team that campaigned on increasing campus bus service without paying significantly more for it.

The University has taken the first step in constructing a new student housing complex near campus for graduate and upper-level students. In a meeting July 8, the Campus Planning Committee approved the proposed site and a user group for the Moss Street Student Housing project, which is currently expected to house between 65 and 70 upper-level students on the east side of campus.

His finals over, Todd Doxey returned home to San Diego in mid-June. Trying to compete for playing time in one of the nation's best defensive secondaries wasn't going to be easy, and he knew it.
He came back to his hometown early in the summer, knowing off-season workouts and classes in Eugene might keep him in Eugene until Oregon's first bye week.
But with hard work came excitement. He was going to arrange a trip to Eugene for four of his closest friends from San Diego, Ronnie Childs, Bryan Russell, JayDee Luster and Corey Tisby, to watch him play in the fall at Autzen Stadium.

With Campus Dining's multiple renovation plans this summer, students can expect better food, more jobs and the availability of late-night coffee in the library in the fall.

The Robert E. Kennedy Library is undergoing major changes this summer, including a complete transformation of the second floor, as well as the addition of Julian's. With new carpet, modern furniture and fresh ideas, the library can offer students a more efficient place to study.
