Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a phobia as an exaggerated, usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects or situation.
Guide dogs lead, teach responsibility

One could only imagine how terrified the people in the World Trade Center were when it was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001, but imagine being blind, 70 stories up and the only hope for survival was a dog. That was the case for New York resident Omar Rivera. According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, he was led down 70 flights of stairs to safety by his Seeing Eye dog, Dorado.

Students might not know his name but probably recognize his ironing board boasting signs for Democratic registration and political candidates. Mike Hawkins has spent 26 years registering students and passers-by to vote at Chico State.
Drama, lies peeve some students in relationships

Everyone has things they can't stand, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. Members of the opposite sex can be gross, rude and annoying. Sophomore Sam Maher gets frustrated even before a relationship begins, he said. "I hate it when one girl thinks you're together, and she gets pissed off when you hang out with another girl," he said.
International students find comfort in buddies

Some countries hate Americans. However, Chico State is doing its part to bridge cultural differences through its international mentor program. "Students have a huge capacity to build those bridges on a more intimate basis than big business and the government," said Joey Foy, international mentor-buddy coordinator.
