The Wildcat Recreation Center has posted its summer hours — Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will also be open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Summertime is here and students who decide to stay in Chico may wonder whether they’ll be able to continue to use the Wildcat Recreation Center during summer vacation.

Teresa Clements, the center’s assistant director, explained how it would still offer group exercise, boot camp and personal training.

The center has recently posted its official summer hours, Clements said. Originally the plan was to keep it open from Monday to Thursday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The official hours are now Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“The pool hours are going to mirror 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. most of the day,” Clements said. “We know that will be in high demand.”

As for the employment situation, Clements is not worried, she said.
“There are still enough people,” Clements said. “We can hire people very easily.”

Another alternative for students is the Forebay Aquatic Center, located in the North Thermalito Forebay State Park outside of Oroville.

“The center has all kinds of programs,” Clements said. “It’s a really neat experience. There’s quite a bit to do, places to picnic and activities to do during the summer.”

The Forebay Aquatic Center will be open this summer `from March 18 to June 3, Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. From June 4 to August 16, the hours are Monday to Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The services offered at the aquatic center are wakeboarding, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, rowing, summer camps, birthday parties and other special events.

As for Adventure Outings, the only program they are currently offering for students is Chico Bound, which is restricted to incoming freshmen and transfer students.

The program consists of students coming to campus and meeting their advisers.

Chico Bound supplements itself to an experience where the incoming freshmen can meet and get a head start, said Lauren Pope, a trip leader for Adventure Outings.

Students are taken to the Forebay Aquatic Center where they can go kayaking, have a barbecue and enjoy the amenities that the center provides.

“We get a lot of people, they pretty much fill up,” Pope said. “It’s a big success because they are more than welcome to bring a guest.”

There is always something to do in Chico and with help of the Wildcat Recreation Center, the summer is no exception.
